Perception of _ is an artistic research project exploring the architectural shapes of cities. This edition focuses on Detroit.
Captivated by buildings, shadows, details and terrain vague, Raphaël created an archive of urban forms: a series of prints revealing the architectural identity of a specific place. Like a sample book, the project preserves fragments of human construction, reconfiguring them into art and allowing them to be valued again through his perception.
To bring the project into a new phase, Raphaël is collaborating with Corradino Garofalo. Together, they animate the images in response to the sounds of the city, giving the visual archive an emotional rhythm rooted in the place itself.
The project is also intended to raise awareness. It acts partly as a testimony to our ability to adapt, and partly as a tool for architects and designers to quickly read the identities of places, recognising both the failures and successes of design.
