Savia is a biobased residential building where material, climate and collective life are closely intertwined. Timber, straw and earth form a low-tech systemthat reduces CO₂ while creating a stable and healthy indoor environment.
The building is organised around a collective garden street, a continuous interior landscape that connects the Waterplein, het Ij and park. It brings light, air and greenery deep into the block and structures daily movement through shared space.
Housing is arranged in stacked neighbourhoods, each with its own collective outdoor space. Together nwith the garden street and a public plinth with café and workspaces, this creates a network of places for encounter, exchange and everyday use.
Natural ventilation, healthy materials and integrated greenery support comfort and wellbeing, while views towards water and landscape extend the living environment beyond the building. Movement through the project, along stairs, terraces and shared routes, encourages walking and informal interaction.
Savia: the flow of nutrients within a plant, reflects the project’s spatial logic. Savia is a connected system where people, spaces and resources circulate and support each other.
