In the summer of 2024, we refurbished the foyer of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The relocation of the ticket office into the entrance foyer redefined the arrival experience and changed the way visitors move through the building.

Our first intervention was to open the view towards the outside by removing the rope curtain behind the glass façade and introducing a large neon light text as a clear visual statement. Once inside, the new spatial sequence is structured by a 25-metre-long curved counter that runs through the foyer from left to right, integrating the ticket office and the four counter for cloakrooms into one continuous gesture.

The counter is defined by a white solid surface top and a front made from a single piece of linoleum. We chose linoleum for the counter front and the alcoves for its sustainability, but also for its material qualities. Made from natural ingredients, it brings warmth, softness, and durability to the space.

Based on a similar curved logic, we also designed the Legato sofa system for the foyer, creating seating as a continuous spatial element rather than a series of separate objects.

As part of the intervention, we designed a platform for a self-playing Japanese piano, acknowledging Muziekgebouw Eindhoven’s identity as a concert venue with a hall specifically optimised for piano performances. For the cloakrooms, we created alcoves with a Duet light positioned at the centre of each niche, clearly marking where visitors can leave their coats.
New screens were introduced to improve wayfinding throughout the building, each topped with a Duet light to maintain a consistent and elevated atmosphere. In this setting, the Duet fixtures are made in acrylic resin, giving them a soft, natural, stone-like presence.

On the first floor, we also produced two bars based on the same principles: curved forms, white solid surface tops, and linoleum fronts
