Hondsrugpark, located in Amsterdam Zuidoost, transforms a former four-lane road into a linear park. This 800-metre-long public space responds to a rapidly developing area, with thousands of new homes and residents expected in the coming years.

Our concept prioritises nature, with a large central green space that supports biodiversity and creates a peaceful landscape for passers-by. The trees emphasise the linearity of the park and are placed along different lines, with alternating species creating a colourful tableau.

Pedestrians, cyclists and limited car traffic are directed along the park’s edges, close to the buildings, ensuring that nature remains the central focus. At the park’s intersection with the Molenwetering, we created a connection with the water. This enhances the park’s appeal, supports biodiversity and encourages water-based activities.

On the north-west side, we have allocated a large area for sports, including a running track, two multifunctional sports fields and more. This promotes an active lifestyle and community engagement.

In 2024, we completed the Sketch Design (SO) phase. In 2025, following changes in the requirements from the Municipality of Amsterdam, we are developing a second version of the park with a revised approach.
